Georgians have been engaged in viticulture and wine making for almost eighty centuries. During this period, a rich culture of grapevine and wine developed using a diversity of grape varieties. This was also the period during which the domestication of wild grapes was realized, systems of vineyard plantation and care were elaborated, wine vessels were improved and the establishment of the culture of Qvevri occurred. As proof of its cultural significance, and in accordance with principles of Convention on Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, the status of National Monument of Intangible Cultural Heritage has been assigned to “The ancient Georgian tradition of Qvevri winemaking” in 2012.

Itinerary (5-day tour)
Day 1: Arrive to Tbilisi. Transfer to the Hotel in the historical center of the city. Walking tour in old Tbilisi: Metechi cathedral (XIII), Meidan square, lunch, Synagogue (XX), Bethlehem area, Ateshga, Armenian Church (XIII), Narikala fortress (IV-XVII), Mosque (XIX), Abanotubani. Wine testing in Meidan wine cellar. Dinner at Georgian Restaurant. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 2: Breakfast. Departure to Mtskheta – an ancient capital of Georgia. Visit archeological site Bagineti (Armazi Castle IV BC-VII AD, this was a historical part of the city, where roman baths, ruins of palace and pagan temple was found), Svetitskhoveli cathedral (XI), which is the most revered holy places Georgia. The cathedral is the tomb of Royal Family Bagrationi, who ruled Georgia IX-XIX. Jvari (Cross) monastery (VI), located on the top of the hill not far from Mtskheta. From here is a beautiful view of Mtskheta and the the confluence of two rivers Mtkvari and Aragvi. Mtskheta and monuments from the Christian period included in the UNESCO World Heritage. After the excursion in Mtskheta visit Chateau Muchrani vine cellar. Wine degustation; lunch at the restaurant. Return to Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Wine testing and lunch. Tsinandali Palace and one of the oldest Enoteca. Arrive to Telavi. Overnight in Telavi.
Day 4: Breakfast and departure to Alaverdi Monastery (XI), Gremi – residence of Kings of Kakheti in medieval centuries, Nekresi Monastery (VI), Winery Khareba. Return to Tbilisi. Dinner in the national restaurant. Overnight in Tbilisi.
